My son turned the BIG FOUR last Sunday so I thought I would share just a few images from the event. There were games, take home favors, candy-candy-candy, a photo booth, cupcakes, yummy food and of course family and friends! The sun didn't make an appearance but at least it didn't rain. I had my two trusty bff's to help with set up and picture taking (thanks gals).

There were just way too many pictures to post. We had a fun photo booth set up and everyone got to take home their clown nose. I purchased a lot of the decor, prizes and take home goodies from Oriental Trading, a great resource!
The popcorn boxes were from Target (dollar bins). I weighted them with marbles and stuffed them with yellow tissue to look like "popcorn". The signs were attached to skewers and then placed inside the boxes. A super cheap way to create signage and the boxes can be reused for a movie theme!

Have you seen this movie yet...Babies by Focus Features? I just watched it today on OnDemand. Oh my goodness, it was beyond precious. It was also very interesting to see the different cultures and how their raise their wee ones.

Let's be frank...

I've been a terrible blogger this summer. What can I say, it's been crazy! We started the summer with a cruise to Alaska which was fabulous! No complaints there, well maybe some motion sickness but that's typical.

Moving along...we are in the process of possibly putting our home on the market and upgrading to something bigger. That's still up in the air but stressful none the less.

NEXT...my husband and I have been having health issues which have resulted in numerous doctors visits, even a few to the hospital. Nothing too serious thank goodness. We need to learn how to manage our stress levels better, start eating healthier (too many cupcakes perhaps?) and start sleeping better. I've been dealing with vertigo for five years now and have had some terrible episodes. Trying to pin point where the vertigo is stemming from is no easy feet. Two visits to the audiologists and several to the ENT and still no answers. Next week I have to go in for a MRI (nervous much?) to try and rule out any tumors that might be pushing on the nerve that runs from the inner ear to the brain. If all is clear with that then I guess they'll give me the I don't know answer of "Spontaneous Vertigo"- yes it's an actual diagnosis. No comment.

On top of all that my baby boy turns four in a week so party prep mode is about to go into full effect!

So...that's why in a not so small nutshell. Thanks for hanging in there with us. We'll be back next week with some fun school finds.

I love flower clippies for my daughter. She doesn't always want to wear them in her hair though...I mean, she is 2 and going through a "don't touch my hair" phase (the picture below speaks for itself). But she does own several flower hair clippies that I try to coax her into wearing from time to time. I'm usually unsuccessful at this endeavor as she is very much into setting her own independent style.

Snuggle Bug Kidz was born out of the desire to find good quality, fun clothing, and accessories for my kids. When I gave birth to my first daughter we didn't know she was going to be a "preemie," she weighed in at only a little over 4 pounds. I couldn't find anything in the stores that would fit her. No retail outlet in our area even carried preemie clothing. This is where the beginning of Snuggle Bug Kidz took place. I couldn't believe there wasn't anything to cover these things ! I began discussing with the Dr. about how we could cover these plastic helmets in a way that makes it fun for the kids and the parents. The Dr. had said many parents won't go in public with the helmets on and therefore the children end up in them for much longer then they need to. This was my " AH-HA moment"...

As time went on and the busyness of life took over I began to realize the huge need for not only preemie clothing, and CranioCap covers, but for the need to celebrate the FAMILY as a whole. We're all different. We all come in different shapes and sizes, and we all have our funny quirks !

Being a young mom of 3 has it's challenges and one of those challenges is to find good quality merchandise at a great price. Starbucks Via Iced Coffee

A couple of weeks ago I spotted a new item on the Starbucks menu...Iced Coffee with Milk. It's certainly cheaper than my usual Caramel Macchiato, I'm all for saving money, so I decided to give it a try. Hey what do you know, it was pretty good!

In the interest of saving even more money I decided to pick up the Starbucks Via Iced packets. So easy! Just add water and a little milk with ice and you're good to go. I've seen some reviews that said it was too sweet, but I thought it was perfect, it's all personal preference.

A cool and refreshing summer drink!

Computers and the Internet are everywhere. Our kids are learning to be computer savvy at a young age. My 4 year old knows how to navigate around the computer better than I do at times. He loves getting on the Internet and playing games. I worry with all the stuff out there that he may at some point run across something inappropriate even though I monitor what sites he is using. And I also like finding educational games for him to play that promote some kind of learning. Here's where Zoodles comes in.

Zoodles is a free web browser that you can install on your computer. Zoodles searches the web for games and videos that are age appropriate and safe for your child to play. The web browser is free for anyone who wants to use it. Zoodles also offers a premium membership for those who want more control. The premium membership allows parents to set time limits, block ads, block certain sites or shows, and boost certain educational areas. The premium membership also provides a progress report for your child's learning and shows you what sites your child has visited and which games he or she has played. You can try the premium membership for free for 14 days when you sign up for the basic membership.

Dylan loves finding new games to play. When I downloaded the browser and showed him how to use it, he was very excited. I even extended his time limit the first day because he was so excited to see all the new games he could play. I love that I can see what areas of interest he spends most time in and adjust the settings so that he finds games that work on specific skill areas such as reading, math, science, and life skills. Even his little sister, Maddie, loves to get in on the fun! His favorite game so far is ABCD Watermelon and Adding Animals, two games he had never played before and probably wouldn't have found if it weren't for Zoodles.

Zoodles is easy to download and install. It is easy for Dylan to navigate around and find what he wants to play. Zoodles is also adding a game directory which lists all the games on the Zoodles browser. You can see for yourself all the games Zoodles has to offer here. Zoodles should be used for anyone who has young children who want to play on the Internet. It puts the best of what is out there in one easy to use place. Dylan and I love it and I think you will, too!

KidCalc is a super fun app. And of course I wouldn't be posting this review if my girls didn't absolutely love playing with it. This app has so many features. And it is also designed for a wide age group. The age groups range from 2 to Little Genius. So if you have children that are not close in age don't worry this app has it covered.

Banana Pops

My son wanted to make banana pops today, I think it had something to do with the Blues Clues episode he was watching. While Blue's version is much healthier- yogurt and granola, we didn't have either ingredient handy, but we did have chocolate and bananas! :)

It's pretty easy...

Insert a popsicle stick in a cut banana and chill.
Melt the chocolate, I used almond bark.
Dip the chilled bananas in the chocolate and sprinkle/coat with your favorite toppings.
Chill and eat!

I tried the banana rolled in graham cracker, heavenly. I was surprised, even though I'm not sure why, it was coated in chocolate.

Delicious Meringues

This recipe is via The TomKat Studio! It is DELICIOUS! The longer you wait to eat them the better they taste!!! Here it is, and let me know if you try them~ bet you won't just eat one;o)

Susie's Meringues

“Forgotten Cookies”

4 egg whites

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon Cream of Tartar

1 1/3 cup sugar

In a mixing bowl, beat egg whites until foamy.

Sprinkle in salt and cream of tartar; beat until “soft peaks” form.

Gradually add sugar, beating until “stiff peaks” form, about 5-8 minutes.

Take almost the full 5-8 minutes to sprinkle the sugar in.

Make sure the meringue is “stiff” looking or the cookies will droop.

Drop by teaspoonfuls or use a pastry bag with a big star tip onto foil lined cookie sheets.

Top with colorful sprinkles if desired.

Preheat oven to 225 degrees. Bake for 1.5 hours.

Turn off heat; leave cookies in the oven with the door ajar for at least an hour.

Yield: 4 dozen

Other tips:

If you add food coloring- you may need to beat a little more to bring the “stiff” peaks back.

If you get even a drop of egg yolk in the whites, they will never get “stiff”.

How they look when you put them in the oven is exactly how they will look when they are done.

You can place them really close together on the foil

After cooking, the more they dry, the more they melt in your mouth!

With the summer almost here, and the warmer weather on it's way- what better way to celebrate a birthday!?! When I was younger my mother always made us homemade ice pops, each summer our freezer would have a variety of flavor options.

I was perusing the web in the hope of finding fun and funky ice pop molds for my daughter- and WOW was I surprised by the options I found and recipes! So from this search, a birthday theme was created!

For this party I am envisioning Polka Dots & Popsicles... which pair so well together, bright and cheerful- a happy pattern with a fun theme! From the invitations to the paper goods, polka dots should carry through!

Signature Cocktail: Sangria with Orange Slices & Cream Jones Soda.

Party Favors: Big bright, old fashion lollipops. Orange and/or Red. Place a large satin ribbon around each lollipop. You May place stickers on each lollipop to add more personalization, or a gorgeous polka dot party favor thank you tag.

Menu Suggestions: A salad bar would be perfect! Lots of fresh vegetables in red, orange and yellow. You could also offer sliced grilled chicken and steak.

Dessert: LOTS OF ICE POPS & Cupcakes for sure, red and orange icing colors with white fondant circles, to pull in the polka dot theme even further. Fruit Kabobs are always a hit as well! Plus Watermelon balls would look cute, strawberries, and cantaloupe!

I love the whimsical yet classy approach to the Itsy Bitsy Paper designs. The owner and designer of Itsy Bitsy Paper is Lindy Harnarain. As a former Wedding and Invitation specialist Lindy took her love for design and opened Itsy Bitsy Paper.

"I have been in love with paper since I was old enough to hold a pen and feel the weight of a good piece of paper in my hands. I have always loved planning parties and helping people see their vision become a reality. I love to have a creative outlet and for me making cards and stationery and creating is my way!"

Itsy Bitsy Paper has just about every event/party covered. Choose from thank you cards, birthday invites, baptisms, just moved or baby shower. You'll even find a few unique items such as the Lobster Boil Party and the rehearsal dinner invitations.

I was able to check out a few Itsy Bitsy Paper stationery samples including the flat 5x7 inch invitations and 4.25x5.5 note cards. The ink quality was perfect, very bright with no imperfections. Each piece was very crisp and clean. On the backside you will find Itsy Bitsy Paper information which I really appreciated. Occasionally I receive a party invite and would like to know where they were created! Prices range from $12.50-30.00.

No, well how about some crushed up Oreos that just looks like dirt! I remember my mom making this ALL the time growing up. It's easy, delicious and you can really have fun with it. I had planned on posting something a little more geared towards Mother's Day, BUT... ended up spending 3 days in the hospital with the 4 year old. She loves this stuff, and since she's been such a brave girl I thought I'd share!

Dirt Pudding

Ingredients
1 8oz pkg cream cheese, softened
1C powdered sugar
1 large pkg vanilla instant pudding
1tsp vanilla
6oz Cool Whip
1/3 bag Oreo cookies, finely crushed

Directions
Cream powdered sugar and cream cheese. Make pudding according to directions and add to the creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla and Cool Whip. Pour into serving dish, top with crushed Oreos and refrigerate. For fun, add gummy worms before serving.

Notes: I like to use low-fat cream cheese and sugar-free pudding to make this a little lighter. You could also use Nilla Wafers instead of the Oreos, and have sand pudding.

These cookies were inspired by all the Sweet eye candy on Sweetopia! This was my first attempt at "swirling". Swirling is where you add a drop of icing to your flooded cookie and drag a toothpick through it. Is the EASIEST cookie I've decorated yet~ REALLY! Check out the tutorial HERE.

Sweetopia’s Sugar Cookie Recipe:

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups butter (at room temperature)
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
seeds from
1 vanilla bean (or 3 tsp vanilla)
5 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt

Instructions:

1. Cream the butter and sugar together in the bowl of an electric mixer on low to medium speed. (Use the paddle attachment). Mix until thoroughly incorporated -for about one minute. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a plastic spatula and mix again for a few seconds more.
Over mixing the butter and sugar in this step will cause too much air to be incorporated into the dough. If you'd like a light and fluffy cookie, that's ideal, however the dough will spread more during baking; not ideal if you'd like the cookie to hold its shape.

2. Add eggs slowly and mix. Scrape down the bowl with your spatula at least once and mix again.

3. Cut open your vanilla bean and scrape the seeds out. Add to mixing bowl. Alternatively, add liquid vanilla extract. Stir briefly.

4. Sift your dry ingredients together. (Flour, baking powder and salt).

5. Add all of the flour mixture to the bowl. Place a large tea towel or two small tea towels between the edge of the bowl and the electric mixer so that the flour won't escape. Mix on low speed for 3o seconds. Remove the tea towels and observe the dough mixing; when it clumps around the paddle attachment it's ready. It's also important at this stage not to over mix the dough glutens in the flour develop and the dough can become tough).

6. Roll the dough out between 2 large pieces of parchment paper. Place on a baking sheet and into the fridge for a minimum of 1 hour.

7. Roll out the dough further if you need to, and cut out cookie shapes. Place on parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Re-roll scraps and repeat.

8. Put cookie dough shapes back into the fridge for 10 minutes to 1 hour to chill again. They will then hold their shape better when baked.

9. Preheat your oven to 350°F or 176°C.

10. Bake cookies for 8-12 minutes or until the edges become golden brown. The baking time will depend on the size of your cookie.

11. Let cookies cool to room temperature and decorate!

The app is set up to resemble a slot machine. To get the wheels to spin you can shake your IPod/IPhone, click the wacky button or spin the wheels with your finger. Then you click chatter and hear the three words being read by three different characters.

Another fun feature of this application is you can email your silly sentences to your friends. Each character has their own biography so you can learn all sorts of fun facts about them.

It's time to show those hard working teachers a little appreciation! Next week is officially Teacher Appreciation Week, even though some schools might be celebrating at different times. You can read more about Teacher Appreciation Week via Teacher Appreciation-Info.

Being a former teacher I always vowed that I would put together a little something for my kiddos teachers during this special week. Teachers really do appreciate the gesture no matter how big or small. In my zeal to get started on his first ever teacher appreciation week I jumped the gun and thought it was this week! Oh well!

I wanted to share with you a simple gift I put together for his preschool teachers. I made each teacher a reversible tote bag. You can find the tutorial here. They are pretty easy to make. My son helped pick out the fabric.

We also stashed a goodie inside the tote bag. This recipe is so EASY and DELICIOUS. White chocolate popcorn, sounds good right? You might have to make a double batch, one for you and one for teacher. You can find the recipe here. I renamed the popcorn and made a cute custom sticker as an extra touch.

DIY Tutu Tutorial

Tutus are all the rage for parties, dress up and photography props.

As a former boutique owner, I've made my fair share of tutus. Below you will find a tutorial for a hand knotted tutu that I put together for you. I know there are numerous ways to make tutus, this is the way I make mine. They are pretty easy once you get the hang of it!

What You'll Need
Tulle Ribbon (6x25)
1 inch wide elastic
Needle and Thread
Cutting tool/Ruler
Ribbon/Embellishments

Step 1
Measure out the proper amount of elastic needed. The best way to do this is to measure the waist of the tutu recipient. Do not stretch the elastic.

Step 2
Sew the elastic waist ends together, overlapping the ends about 1/2"-1'

Step 3
Decide how long your want the tutu to be. Double the amount and add 2-3 inches.

For example if you wanted a 8 inch tutu you would measure out 16 inches of tulle and add a couple of inches, for a tulle cut of 18 inches.

Step 4
Cut a pile of tulle for the tutu. For this tutu I used about 3 spools of tulle. It just depends on how fluffy you want the tutu and the size of the waist.

Step 5
You will now tie on the tulle to the elastic waist. I use two pieces of tulle at a time. Place the tulle pieces under the elastic.

Tie one simple knot and pull the tulle ends in the direction of the waist band.

Make a second simple knot, pulling the ends as shown in the opposite direction of the waist band.

Push/pull the knot and tulle downwards. The knot will should be a schmincy (not a technical term...haha) bit loose, if it's too tight the elastic will not stretch. I do not recommend the "slip knot" method of tying the tulle, it could potentially come loose and fall off.

Step 6
Continue using two pieces of tulle and knot the tulle all the way around the elastic. You can then go in and tie one piece of tulle in between where there are gaps. Remember the tutu can be as fluffy as you want, the more fluff, the more tulle.

Step 7
If desired, add ribbon or embellishments to accent the tutu.

Make your own apple butter

I decided this past weekend that I wanted to make my own apple butter. I'd seen a few recipes for making it in the crock pot, so I thought what the heck! When I started reviewing the recipes I'd seen, I realized that most of them were made from applesauce. That's all fine and dandy, but I got apples and I was gonna start from the beginning. So here's my take, and it turned out tasty!

Crock Pot Apple Butter

Ingredients
6 small MacIntosh apples
1 large Fuji apple
1/2C brown sugar
1/4C water
2tsp cinnamon
1/2tsp nutmeg

Directions
Peel, core and roughly chop the apples. Place them in the crock pot with the brown sugar and water. Cook on high, covered, for 1 hour. Turn the heat down to low and cook for 8-10 hours, stirring occasionally. Then remove the lid, stir in the cinnamon and nutmeg, turn the heat back up to high and cook for another 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Chill in the fridge overnight and then pulse in a food processor until smooth. You can divide it up into freezer containers or if you're into canning, go that route!

Yummy on toast, crackers or just by the spoonful!

Cupcake Camp- Seattle

It was a cupcake lovers paradise this weekend in Seattle. Bella Cupcake Couture hosted a amazing cupcake event to support the Hope Heart Institute. Cupcake Camp was an opportunity for cupcake bakers (armatures and professional) and cupcake fans to come together to help out a great cause and of course eat cupcakes! The event was free to the public, and all donations received were passed onto the Hope Heart Institute.

How did Cupcake Camp begin?
"The concept for Cupcake Camp originated in San Francisco and promotes a true spirit of community and sharing, and Cupcake Camps now happen around the world and come in a wide variety of flavors and sizes. The most essential feature of a Cupcake Camp is that it brings together people to share their love of cupcakes!"

There was an huge array of cupcake shops present and the cupcakes were out of this world! There was an estimated 800 people that attended and 5,000 cupcakes consumed. It opened at 11:00 and at 11:30 it was packed! I managed to snap a few pictures while trying to make my way through the cupcake line, grab some cupcakes to sample and keep track of my 3 year old and husband! Yes, the hubs was kind enough to attend with me, he earned a gold star for the day.

There was also cupcake contests, and a cupcake eating contest.

I adore the Aqua hat w/ bow. Precious!

As an amateur photographer, I love finding fun, quality, handmade props to use for photographing my kids. Before the birth of my 3rd child in January, I began collecting lots of fun things to use for his newborn pictures. I came across Oops, I Knit It Again on Etsy. I purchased a hanging sling/coccoon/stork pouch for use in pictures. The sling arrived and is beautifully knit. It has plenty of stretch to it and photographs wonderfully. I've had a great time using it to take some fun pictures of my little man. Sheri, the creative genius behind, Oops, I Knit it Again is a pleasure to work with.

My girls ages 6 1/2 and 3 1/2 were thrilled to give the Dr. Seuss's ABC e-book IPod app a whirl. We are huge Dr. Seuss fans at our house. And needless to say this e-book was a hit! The e-book is made available by Oceanhouse Media. And they do a fantastic job with creating this classic story into a e-book.

Isabella and Sofia loved the Dr. Seuss's ABC e-book so much that we had to download The Cat In The Hat, and How The Grinch Stole Christmas. There is also a game called Grinchmas which the girls love playing.

The one thing I love about the e-book IPod and IPhone apps is that you can chose to have the story read to your child. Or if your child can read then you can turn off the voice. The book can be read in a child's voice or adults voice. And usually in English or Spanish.

Downloading e-books and games to your IPod or IPhone can provide a much needed distraction when you are out eating, at the Dr's office, or waiting in the carpool lane at school.

A Polka Dot Party...

Theme: Polka Dot Party
Colors/Patterns: Shades of Pink & Orange, White, Polka Dots

Center Pieces: Bright and/or Puffy Flowers & Oranges
Kid Party Favors: Large Lollipops
Signature Cocktail: Sangria with Orange Slices
Children's Drink: Jones Cream Soda

Center Pieces: I am envisioning medium height glass cylinder vases. Oranges and big puffy peonies or any large flower you may like. You could even do Hot Pink Roses! Pink Polka Dot ribbon wrapping each vase. Slice oranges, press up against glass and secure in place with oranges cut in half. Fill vase with water, and begin adding flowers! You will need at least 1.5 dozen for each glass cylinder if you do roses.

Kid Party Favors: Big bright, old fashion lollipops. Orange and/or Pink. Place a large satin ribbon around each lollipop. You May place stickers on each lollipop to add more personalization, or a gorgeous polka dot party favor thank you tag.

Signature Cocktail: Sangria with fresh fruit and organge slices just seems perfect for such a sweet party. The organge and pink colors continued throughout. Consider using mason jars as the glass of choice with polka dot cocktail tags adorning each jar.

Children's Drink: Purchase a metal tin bucket, and fill with the Jones Cream Soda and ice! Such a hit. If you order this soda in advance from the website, you can place your child's picture on the soda label! So perfect.

Menu Suggestions: Miniature cheese burgers are always a hit, or even kabobs! Fresh corn, all things spring/summer!

Dessert: Cupcakes for sure, hot pink and orange icing colors with white fondant circles, to pull in the polka dot theme even further. Fruit Kabobs are always a hit and watermelon balls would be cute!

I just finished my second week back to work at a "real" job. I have to say, as much as I had been dreading going back into the workforce, I really do love my job. This is just the position that I have been looking for. The youngest couldn't be more thrilled to be attending preschool! That being said, I'm finding cooking and baking a little more difficult, so bear with me if i ramble!

Before I share this meatball recipe with, I'm gonna let you all in on a little secret of mine. I discovered (by accident) that the sure fire way to get perfect hamburgers is to use ground beef AND ground pork. I has both for a recipe I decided I didn't feel like making, so I gave it a shot. This is the ONLY way we make burgers now. You can dress it up from there any way you like, but it really is the perfect base. So, on to meatballs... When I made these it was from the leftover half of the mixture from making 4 burgers. I'm gonna give you the recipe full though.

Spanish Meatballs

Ingredients
1lb ground pork
1lb ground sirlion
1/4C bread crumbs
1/4C Manchego cheese, finely shredded
1/2tsp cinnamon
1tsp garlic powder
1tsp cumin
1tsp smoked paprika
2tsp capers, finely chopped
salt and pepper to taste

Directions
Combine all ingredients and form into about 1in balls. Heat oil in a pan over medium high heat. Cook meatballs in batches, turning frequently to brown on all sides, until center is no longer pink. I didn't actually time this, but it was probably about 8 minutes each batch.

I really enjoyed these plain, but my hubby made a meatball sandwich with some pasta sauce and said it was great. Enjoy!
